P30 vs P30

Hello everyone,
as you can imagine, we’re working hard to bring the full range of Ferrania black-and-white products back to market as soon as possible, and new products will follow. We’ll keep you updated on that.

In the meantime, for all those still hunting down the last remaining rolls of P30 out there, we want to clarify that you may find two versions of P30 that differ only in their packaging.

Ferrania P30 (Cinema)

Ferrania P30 "Cinema"

This is the original P30 formula, the one resurrected in 2016 from Ferrania’s historical documentation.
It’s a high-contrast film with low red sensitivity, just like the panchromatic stocks of the 1950s.
Beautiful, powerful, and unique but not for everyone. It’s like a race car: demanding in everyday use, challenging on the track, but capable of results others can only dream of.

Ferrania P30 (MkII)

This is the evolution of the original formula, born from the same DNA, but refined through years of testing and feedback from photographers around the world.
It’s a true modern panchromatic film: it preserves the unmistakable character and deep contrast of P30, while offering smoother tonal transitions, richer shadow detail, and greater flexibility in both exposure and development.
In short, the same bold Ferrania soul, now with a wider dynamic range and total creative control.

Which is better?

As we like to say at Ferrania, the answer isn’t in the datasheet, it’s in your photographer’s mind. THE LOOK IS EVERYTHING!
